Educational Supervision Careers in TeachingNot everyone is cut out to be a trainer or a teacher despite being good at it. In fact, several times, teachers may wish to do something different apart from delivering sessions in front of a class daily. If you belong to that group, you are not alone. Several individuals are looking to break out of traditional careers and move into another enriching field that continues to involve educational settings though it doesn’t require addressing classes. Welcome to “educational supervision”. Educational supervision involves working in positions of administration within educational settings such as personnel and training managers, instructional coordinators and counselors, to name a few. These roles require that individuals possess a minimum of Master’s degree or even better, a Doctoral degree coupled with experience as a teacher or an equivalent role. Master’s and Doctorate degrees are available through campus and online modes. Career outlook is bright for this discipline with jobs for top educational administrators projected to grow between 9 – 17% through 2014 as per Bureau of Labor Statistics. Opportunities for administrators are numerous as administrators / principals in schools, in corrective facilities and community agencies. They also run departments at college level along side teaching and performing administrative work like budgeting. College presidents and school superintendents are charged with making policies that guide operations of the educational institutions. Salaries depend on roles and other variables. For example, personnel and training managers earned median salaries between $66,000 to $82,000 per annum whereas instructional coordinators drew $50,000 per year in 2004. Counselors earned between $34,000 and $59,000 annually in 2004. University of Phoenix and Strayer University offer best in class education followed by CDI College and Argosy University well known for their strong academic credentials. Kaplan University focuses on customized programs that impart real world skills and offer satisfying careers to students.
