Educational Management Programs and DegreesBusiness enterprises need to apply good management principles to ensure strong growth over a period of time. Educational institutions are no exception to this rule. Application of strong management principles to school or educational settings enabling them to taste positive growth is termed as educational management. Moreover, effective educational management can result in educational institutions being successful in their mission to provide quality education to students. There are several programs offered by well reputed institutions that facilitate educational management. These are Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees provided through campus and online modes. Working staff prefer the latter since it allows them to simultaneously balance study and work commitments. Program duration varies depending on the course. Deans, superintendents, principals, vice principals and other senior administrators have all been shaped through such programs and are examples of educational managers. Educational managers are expected to possess a thorough understanding of educational policies and practices. They can balance interests of several groups while crystallizing the mission of the school. License requirements may apply. Career outlook is bright in this discipline with growth projected at 12% through 2016. Jobs are primarily in educational settings though there are employment opportunities in departments of learning, training and human resources within companies too. Moreover, governments also need these individuals to formulate proper policies for the discipline. Salaries are lucrative and will depend upon the role, education, experience, location and employer. In May 2006, median annual earnings of elementary and secondary school administrators were $77,740. In contrast, post-secondary school administrators drew $73,990, while administrators in preschool and childcare centers earned $37,740 per year. University of Phoenix and Strayer University are top notch institutions offering quality programs. CDI College and Argosy University drive their programs with skilled educators possessing strong academic backgrounds. Kaplan University’s programs are designed with students’ futures in mind.
