All About the Applegate-Jackson-Parks Future Teacher Scholarship
These teaching scholarships from the NILRR are most appropriate for future educators who have a strong opinion on unions. The Applegate Jackson Parks Future Teacher Scholarship is named after three Michigan public school teachers who were fired for their refusal to pay union dues. Many factors go into the final decision on who is awarded the scholarship money, but a great deal of weight is placed on an essay of no more than 500 words that demonstrates an interest in and knowledge of the Right to Work principle as it applies to educators. The scholarship money is also awarded to students who show potential to successfully complete a college-level education program. The NILRR Applegate Jackson Parks Future Teacher Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship that current or incoming undergrad and grad students in education majors may apply for between October 1 and December 15 of this year. Qualifying graduate and undergraduate students must be attending accredited institutions of higher learning within the United States. Any officers, directors, employees and family members of officers, directors and employees of the National Institute for Labor Relations Research, the National Right to Work Committee, as well as members of the related Selection Review Committee, are not eligible to apply for this award. If you are interested in applying for these teaching scholarships, visit the NILRR website. All applications, along with the essay and current school transcripts, must be sent to Future Teachers Scholarships, National Institute for Labor Relations Research, 5211 Port Royal Road, Suite 510, Springfield, VA 22151. All About the American Montessori Society Scholarships
The American Montessori Society offers teaching scholarships to “support the growth of Montessori teachers of tomorrow.” The society’s scholarship is only available to aspiring Montessori teachers who have either been accepted or are in the process of being accepted by an affiliated AMS teacher education program. Like many scholarships and grants, applicants of the American Montessori Society Scholarship are considered based on their financial need, compelling personal statements and three letters of recommendation. The application process also requires the official verification of acceptance into an AMS-affiliated teacher education program, and current students in such programs cannot apply. There were many 2009 teaching scholarships awarded by the American Montessori Society. There was the 2009 Living Legacy award totaling $44,750, which was given in honor of Marie M. Dugan. A total of $110,000 was raised during Marie’s Living Legacy year, thanks in part to a generous matching grant from Eveline and Bob Roberts, and the Montessori Teacher Association in Dugan’s home state of Delaware helped fund the awards for aspiring teachers from that state. Dr. Pamela Zell Rigg of the Zell Family Scholarship Fund also provided two $1,000 scholarships for aspiring Montessori teachers. A total of 18 aspiring teachers received these various awards to pursue their educations and become the Montessori teachers of tomorrow. There are many different scholarships available, and many different teaching styles.
